«The Daimler-Desaster»

From model concern to economic basketcase?

Intrigues, wheeling dealing and power poker - within the Daimler-World nothing seemed impossible. Jürgen Grässlin, 'Daimlers sharpest opponent' [Der Spiegel], discloses the responsibility of the top management for the decline of the former german model concern. A backgroundstory with all ingredients of a business thriller - pure dynamite for Daimler! For the first time Jürgen Grässlin now describes the background of the Daimler-Desaster and asks very unpleasant questions: What is the real situation at DaimlerChrysler? Which part did the Director of the Board, Hilmar Kopper, and Chief Executive Officer play in the Daimler-Desaster? Did the Board of Directors fail? Has there been insider trading? Can the new Executive Chairman Dieter Zetsche unencumberedly face the challenge to reorganize the concern?

In the mean time, Public Prosecutors Office continues to investigate DaimlerChrysler. 'Grässlin is the key figure in the proceedings, that leaded to a widespread investigation', wrote the Stuttgarter Zeitung. The accusation: suspected insider trading. But that isn't nearly all of it. In the course of his inquiries Jürgen Grässlin encountered systematically organized working Grey Market Deals, and there are indications that top managers are involved in these deals. The 'Daimler-Desaster' is a story about the arrogance of power, a didactic play about megalomania. Finally Jürgen Grässlin tells how a management, driven by uninhibited ambition and overestimation of its own capabilities wanted it all and ended up losing almost everything. It.s left up to the shareholders, the employees and the clients to suffer the loss.

Jürgen Grässlin, born in 1957, living in Freiburg, made his mark as author of the only Schrempp-biography and of several books on the car and arms industry. He is national spokesman of the Deutsche Friedensgesellschaft - Vereinigte KriegsdienstgegnerInnen (DFG-VK) [German Peace-Association - United War Resisters], spokesman of the Kritische AktionärInnen DaimlerChrysler (KADC) [Critical Shareholders of DaimlerChrysler], spokesman of the Deutsches Aktionsnetz Kleinwaffen Stoppen (DAKS) [German Network against small Arms] and member of the board of the RüstungsInformationsBüro (RIB e.V.) [Bureau for Information on Armament]; further memberships: amnesty international (ai), attac, Gewerkschaft Erziehung und Wissenschaft (GEW) [Union for Education and Scholarship] und Verkehrsclub Deutschland (VCD); Parteiaustritt [withdrawal from party] Bündnis90/DieGrünen.
